Teachers demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection and leadership
Artifact One
Standard 4.D: Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school, the community, and the teaching profession
Standard 4.D: Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school, the community, and the teaching profession
By attending a teacher meeting at Rocky Mountain High School, I part took in demonstrating Standard 4.D. The meeting was about the rapidly growing COVID-19 pandemic and the effects it would have on the school community and beyond. By attending this meeting I was able to take the correct steps to prepare myself for the upcoming change as well as understand how to approach concerned students with questions. It was a reminder that part of being a leader in a school is having empathy for those around you.
Artifact Two
Standard 4.A: Teachers demonstrate high standards for professional conduct
Standard 4.A: Teachers demonstrate high standards for professional conduct
There are many facets to professional conduct and what it looks like in schools. This handout I included as my artifact may not directly seem to reflect Standard 4.A, but professional conduct was in mind while I created it. Compassion and flexibility are important parts of my professional conduct practice. One student who was to partake in the peer interview critique is typically unresponsive in class and often receives modifications/ extensions on their assignments. I kept this student in mind while creating a lesson that asked students to gather in groups. This way when the day to teach came I knew I could include this student in the activity without forcing them to pair up or sit, isolated doing nothing. I created the questions to have the ability to be answered individually allowing the student to participate.
Reflection:
I consider myself between proficient and accomplished in Standard 4. While I know I have good professional conduct and leadership skills, I think this is another area where one can always grow. Especially once I have more opportunities to demonstrate it. I also think I'm still learning to respond to the complex and dynamic school environment as it is complex and will involve many nuances I'll face over time. I do however strongly feel that I link professional growth to professional goals through my views about teaching being a never ending learning experience that I mention many times through out this portfolio.
