Lesson Overview:
For this lesson, students started by learning 4 different watercolor techniques; wet on wet, resist, salt technique and plastic wrap technique. After practicing these methods and discovering the effects they created, I had students apply these techniques to still life drawings. We learned about drawing from observation as well as what a still life is and looked at various artists who created still life paintings. Students then had the freedom to build their own still lifes with plastic fruits and veggies in ceramic bowls. Next students closely observed their still life setups and drew them with pencil before watercoloring them and applying the 4 techniques we practiced in whichever way they chose. Everyone really enjoyed the techniques and I have a feeling they will use them in the future when having fun with watercolors!
