Lesson Overview:
For this lesson I asked students to find 3 objects in nature and observe them closely. We then discussed abstract art/ artists and negative space and students were asked to take a closer look at their objects to find the abstract shapes and forms within/on them. Using these abstract forms and shapes, students planned an abstract ceramic sculpture starting with a sphere as the base. They used rubber balls as molds for their spheres using the slab method then added or detracted forms and shapes inspired by their found objects in nature. It was a challenging lesson to teach remotely, but students persevered through the difficulties they faced and turned out some incredible work!
